Toshihiko Hosaka is not your ordinary sand artist. With a career spanning almost two decades, he has elevated the ephemeral medium of sand into a form of high art. His intricate sculptures are so finely detailed and sculpted that they seem to defy the very nature of sand, resembling works carved from stone or clay.
Hosaka’s journey with sand began in art school, and since then, he has used beaches and sandboxes around the world as his canvas. Each piece is a testament to his mastery over this granular material, showcasing his ability to manipulate it into complex, enduring forms that captivate and inspire.
I started sand sculpting during studying at the University. Since I graduated from there, I have been making sculpture and three-dimensional works of various materials for filming, shops, and so on.
