Plastic Arts or Three-Dimensional Art refers to art forms that involve creating three-dimensional objects by molding or shaping materials. This includes sculpture, ceramics, and installation art. Here, “plastic” refers to the idea of something being able to be molded or shaped, rather than the modern material we typically think of. This includes classic mediums like clay, used by sculptors to create everything from delicate figurines to monumental figures. The potter transforms a lump of clay into a functional cup or a whimsical vase on the potter’s wheel. Glassblowing utilizes molten glass, which acts like a thick, moldable liquid, to create vases, sculptures, and even functional glassware.
