Gregory Knopp is a ceramic artist based in New York, focused on abstract handmade plant vases. He takes inspiration from mythology, anatomy and nature’s designs. In the series below, the items got tentacles, claws, and teeth growing from the organic shapes.
Knopp’s work explores the interplay between two primordial forces: order and chaos. He creates ceramic sculptures, drawing inspiration from ancient mythology and nature’s inexplicable forms. He uses clay to capture both dynamic motion and arresting stillness, looking for shapes that tap into deep-seated symbols. (…) Initially working with wood, Knopp found clay as intuitive and malleable medium, one that allows for images and ideas that might not be conscious to come through and take shape.
