Margarita Kareva, a photographer from Yekaterinburg, Russia, masterfully brings the enchanting world of Russian fairy tales to life through her lens. Her portraits are a gateway to a realm of fantasy, where elaborate costumes and surreal props blend seamlessly with the mystical narratives of folklore. Each photograph is a visual story, rich with detail and imbued with the magic of tales passed down through generations.
Kareva’s artistry lies in her ability to transform women into fairytale princesses and witches, creating scenes that are both ethereal and grounded in the familiar stories we cherish. Her use of Photoshop manipulation combined with real props adds depth and authenticity to her work, making each image a standalone piece of storytelling.
I started taking pictures about 8 years ago, had not even suspected that it will be my profession. Since then, I often say thanks to the Universe for giving me a passion for my life. I love to read since childhood, and perhaps my love of reading has made me a dreamer and a person living in their fantasies. And I’m glad that I had a way to play out my fantasies with the camera. It is very important for every person – to have their own way of expression. (…) Photos with unusual models, with animals, with a combination of quaint colors. Most of the photos in my portfolio are creative photography (non-commercial) because I think it is very important to do something that you really like.
