Kilian Schönberger is a German photographer who has captured the enchanting beauty of European landscapes that evoke the atmosphere of Brothers Grimm folk tales. His project, titled “Brothers Grimm’s Wanderings”, is the second part of a series that started with “Brothers Grimm’s Homeland”. In both series, Schönberger explores the places that inspired the famous stories of the Grimm brothers, such as Rapunzel, Hansel and Gretel, or Snow White.
He travels to locations around central Europe, such as Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and the Czech Republic, and photographs the forests, mountains, castles, and villages that seem to belong to a fairy tale world. Schönberger says that he wants to create “visually accessible places where the visitor can virtually put his mind at rest and make up his own stories”. He also adds that he has a form of color blindness that makes him see the world in a slightly different way, which may contribute to his unique aesthetic. Schönberger’s photographs are stunning examples of how nature and culture can blend together to create magical scenes that appeal to our imagination and nostalgia.
