Light My Way Home is a fascinating surrealist painting series by Guang Dong, China-born, New York-based artist Gigi Chen that depicts her subjective relationship with home, safety, and love. Her “work creates an aesthetic that combines her training as a traditional animator and painter, along with her love of the techniques of Old Masters”. Animals, home symbols, and neon lights interact in her surreal and allegorical pictures.
“Light My Way Home” is a collection of paintings that touch upon my complex feelings about Home, Safety and Love. Using different motifs such as neon houses, wooden structures, idyllic gardens and string lights, I play with different metaphors involving family, decorating, rearranging, moving and continuously chasing the Ideal of Home.
