Paris is often celebrated for its timeless beauty, from the majestic Eiffel Tower to the charming streets of Montmartre. Yet, photographer Pierre-Louis Ferrer unveils a hidden layer of the City of Lights through his captivating infrared photography series, “Invisible Paris”. With a lens that captures wavelengths of light beyond human vision, Ferrer’s series presents a surreal and otherworldly Paris. Trees and greenery glow with an ethereal white hue, while the iconic cityscape takes on a dreamlike quality. This transformative approach spurs us to rediscover the familiar landmarks and vistas of Paris as if seeing them for the very first time, experiencing the city in a fresh, extraordinary way.
What makes Ferrer’s work so compelling is the contrast between the well-known and the unseen. His infrared images challenge the perception of reality by revealing an enhanced, almost magical version of everyday scenes. The infrared light highlights elements usually overlooked, offering a striking juxtaposition with the traditional views of Paris. This imaginative series not only showcases Ferrer’s technical skill but also his ability to inspire wonder and curiosity. “Invisible Paris” invites everyone to explore and appreciate the unseen beauty all around, reminding us that even the most familiar places hold secrets waiting to be discovered.
“Invisible Paris” presents a selection of views of Paris in infrared, from the most emblematic to the most modern places. The confrontation between nature and urbanism is here at the heart of the narration: the vegetation appears immaculate, surrounding monuments and public spaces in a dreamlike whiteness. In contrast, the buildings, gray and dull, try to focus attention without succeeding. Nature is omnipresent, pure, like a symbol of escape from the city. The few passers-by scattered here and there accentuate this poetic vision by inviting the viewer to travel through them. In the end, this series illustrates one of my main artistic approaches: the revelation of an alternative environment invisible to the naked eye and the invitation to contemplation and reverie.
