My Old New: a sculptural acrylic and wood furniture series by Tatiane Freitas

Tatiane Freitas, a Brazilian visual artist, has created a unique furniture series titled “My Old New”, where she breathes new life into old and broken furniture pieces. By reconstructing their missing parts with acrylic, Freitas transforms these discarded items into beautiful, lyrical sculptures that not only serve a functional purpose but also tell a story of time and memory.

Her work is a contemporary take on the Japanese art of kintsugi, where broken pottery is repaired with gold or silver, celebrating the beauty of imperfections. Freitas’ approach, however, uses translucent acrylic, which creates a stunning visual contrast between the old wood and the new material, symbolizing a bridge between the past and the present.

My Old New series is the materialization of the present feeling: today. With lightness, it exposes the constant restlessness, caused by the perception of the “flow – time” of life. It offers freedom and shares the impulse of building. Evan with questions, spaces, breaths – never ending, but gaining fearlessly the field of possibilities along the way and hope for the untouchable future.
