Have you ever been mesmerized by the vibrant colors and flowing fins of betta fish? Award-winning photographer Andi Halil captures the captivating beauty of these creatures in his stunning photographs. Through his lens, we gain a deeper appreciation for the remarkable variety of colors and patterns that grace the betta fish world. From the metallic sheen of a plakat to the flowing tails of a veiltail, Halil’s photos showcase the unique characteristics of each breed.
But Halil’s work goes beyond simply documenting the visual splendor of betta fish. His photography process reveals a surprising simplicity. Using a basic setup that includes a flashgun and reflector, Halil creates a stage that highlights the inherent brilliance of his subjects. This approach allows the natural beauty of the fish to take center stage, resulting in photographs that are both captivating and intimate.
I started photographing betta fish in the middle of 2015 and continued until now. Betta fish are amazing, you can find them in all sorts of colors, their tails are like dresses, all of them have different patterns, and it looks like every one of them has a different mood and character. Betta fish are strong and easy to handle and feed. Is it difficult to take photos of them? No, you only need to place a flashgun over a small aquarium and a reflector directly underneath to diffuse the light and trigger. Betta fish are not expensive but you can get a priceless picture when you photograph them.
