Discover Ben Fearnley’s hilarious take on emergency equipment with a foodie twist

In a world where the familiar meets the unexpected, New York-based artist Ben Fearnley invites onlookers into a whimsical realm with his 3D illustration series, “In Case of Emergency”. Through this art project, Fearnley reimagines emergency equipment, transforming them into delightful hybrids of popular foods and drinks, effectively merging the mundane with the indulgent. The series serves as a playful commentary on our modern-day cravings, whimsically presenting objects typically associated with urgency through the lens of humor and culinary delight. Each piece skillfully juxtaposes the gravity of emergency tools with the lightheartedness of beloved snacks, prompting us to rethink their perceptions of both art and their daily indulgences with a cheeky grin. Fearnley’s imaginative approach not only captures attention but also sparks a conversation about how we interact with the tools meant to support us in times of need.

The series implicitly questions the nature of emergencies themselves, suggesting perhaps a different kind of urgency—our unyielding appetite for pleasure and comfort in the form of food and drink. By blurring the lines between sensible and indulgent, Fearnley taps into a universal human truth: in times of crisis, solace is often sought in the familiar tastes that bring joy. This artistic experiment challenges traditional design language, encouraging a playful re-examination of priorities and habits. The charmingly surreal compositions of “In Case of Emergency” remind us of the dualities in life, effectively illustrating that within every serious moment, there lies a potential for laughter, creativity, and lightness. Through his art, Fearnley compels us to see the world not just as it is, but as it could be, with a sprinkle of humor and a taste of the unexpected.

In Case Of Emergency is a self-initiated art project re-inventing everyday emergency equipment and flipping the focus and design language to be based around eating and drinking habits. With this project I played on people’s cravings adding a humorous twist to what’s typically interpreted in a serious manner.
