Michael Davydov, a Russian-born artisan now based in Chernivtsi, Ukraine, has created enchanting miniature worlds encased in glass domes and test tubes. His delicate sculptures capture whimsical scenes, each meticulously crafted with attention to detail. These tiny realms evoke nostalgia and a sense of home, frozen in time under glass.
Davydov’s miniature houses, perched on stilts or floating mountains, transport viewers to magical landscapes. Bone-thin trees elongated like giraffe necks surround these docile abodes. Preserved within the glass domes, these fragile worlds feature dry bits of nature, creating a delicate balance between reality and fantasy. His artistry extends beyond mere craftsmanship; it’s an emotional journey — a desire to hold a piece of nostalgia, a longing for home, and a forest from somewhere in the past.
I was engaged in visual art, and gradually it grew into incredible sculptures. I really like to combine art, fantasy and natural materials. For my sculptures, I find inspiration in natural landscapes and architecture.
