In the enchanting world of miniature art, Nayan Shrimali and Vaishali Chudasama have crafted an avian marvel. Based in the vibrant city of Ahmedabad, India, this artistic duo embarked on an ambitious journey called “365 Days of Miniature Art” in 2018, committing to create a unique bird paper cut sculpture each day. Their collection has become a showcase of both their artistic dedication and their deep appreciation for the avian kingdom. Through painstakingly cutting, layering, and painting each delicate piece with watercolors, they have captured the ethereal beauty of birds from around the globe, transforming simple sheets of paper into lifelike portrayals of nature’s feathered wonders.
The process behind each intricate sculpture requires a profound commitment to craftsmanship. Taking between four to six hours to complete, every bird is meticulously layered and hand-assembled, resulting in a captivating 2.5-dimensional artwork that rewards the observer with impeccable detail and depth. This daily practice not only honed their skills but also deepened their understanding of avian life, as each day’s work presented a new species to explore. As the year-long project unfolded, Nayan and Vaishali’s devotion bore a vibrant ecosystem of art that continues to inspire and educate viewers, celebrating the diversity and grace of birds with each paper-cut masterpiece.
Each bird is made by cutting it in different layers on paper and then painted with watercolors and hand-assembled to give a final 2.5 Dimensional look. Each artwork took from 4-6 hours to finish. We enjoyed each bird every day and learned a lot about birds and their nature while making them.
