Adrian Landon Brooks is an artist who creates captivating paintings that blend the surreal with the spiritual. His unique approach involves using wood slices as his canvas, where he paints otherworldly scenes that evoke a sense of ritual and wonder. Brooks’ work is characterized by its mythical themes and the use of bold colors juxtaposed with organic elements like starry skies and simple floral designs.
His influences are diverse, and although he has recently taken a more intentional approach to his art, much of his inspiration comes subconsciously, drawing from a variety of cultural and historical references. His pieces often explore the profound connection between the physical and the spiritual, inviting viewers to step into a mystical world detached from the here and now.
Historically, any imagery in my work that looked similar to any one culture or place was coincidental… I wasn’t always aware of where I was visually drawing from. Most recently, I was asked repeatedly if was influenced by Egyptian artwork, which I thought was interesting because I never had any direct interest or meaningful time with it. I decided to lean into that a bit with one of my latest paintings (“Siren Song”) and see how a more deliberate approach would benefit my process.
