Silvia Finiels is a Parisian artist who has found her creative calling in the heart of Venice, Italy. There, amidst the centuries-old tradition of Murano glassblowing, Finiels breathes new life into broken pieces of this exquisite material. Her technique is both innovative and sustainable: she meticulously salvages discarded Murano glass, each fragment imbued with its own history and character. In her skilled hands, these seemingly disparate pieces are transformed into captivating sculptural lamps, each a unique testament to the artistry of transformation.
Finiels’ lamps transcend mere functionality; they are luminous works of art. By carefully juxtaposing the textures, colors, and shapes of the salvaged glass, she creates a captivating interplay of light and shadow. The resulting lamps are more than just sources of illumination; they are conversation pieces, guaranteed to captivate anyone who enters a room graced by their presence.
Finiels’ dedication to upcycling glass is not merely an aesthetic choice; it is a commitment to sustainability. By rescuing discarded materials and imbuing them with new purpose, she reduces waste and honors the rich heritage of Murano glassblowing. Her work serves as a powerful reminder that beauty can be found in unexpected places, and that even the broken pieces of our past can be transformed into something luminous and new.
To love glass you must learn to know it, know its thousand alchemies, study its history and the art of glass great masters and finally, relate to the skilled artisans like “perlere” and “impiraresse”. Design is part of my professional vision and life, for me it’s synonymous of space and volume harmony. My lamps are unique because I produce them using elements made by the great glass designer. They are art pieces, real sculpture with with reflections of changing colors.
