Exploring the hidden depths of the ocean, Alexander Semenov reveals a world of astonishing beauty and complexity. As a marine biologist and seasoned underwater photographer, Semenov expertly combines his scientific acumen with his artistry, bringing us a glimpse of the vibrant and diverse life within our oceans. His work showcases creatures that seem to defy imagination, from translucent jellyfish that drift like floating chandeliers to the alien-like formations of soft-bodied plankton. Through his compelling macro photography, Semenov captures the ethereal dance of these sea dwellers in their natural habitats, offering a rare chance to appreciate the intricacy and splendor of marine life as it exists undisturbed by human influence.
Semenov’s images do more than simply illustrate the remarkable details of marine organisms; they inspire a deeper appreciation and curiosity toward marine biology. By making these intimate observations linked directly to the ocean’s heart, he encourages people to recognize the importance of protecting this magnificent yet fragile ecosystem. His dedication is evident not only in the meticulous composition of his photographs but also in his efforts to educate and engage the public through various platforms. Through exhibitions, public discussions, and visual storytelling, Semenov aims to create a connection between humanity and the ocean, making us acutely aware of the wonders that lie beneath the waves and the need to preserve them for future generations.
I’m marine biologist, specializing in invertebrate animals. (…) I’m a professional underwater photographer with 10+ years of experience. My key specialization is scientific macro photography in natural environments. This approach makes it possible to observe animals that cannot be properly studied under laboratory conditions, such as soft-bodied planktonic organisms or stationary life forms living on the seafloor. My personal goal is to study underwater life through camera lenses and to boost people’s interest in marine biology. I do this by sharing all my findings through social media and in real life through public lectures, movies, exhibitions and media events.
