Emillie Ferris, a craftswoman from Leamington, UK, weaves magic with needle and thread. Inspired by the whimsical world of nature, Ferris’s embroidery hoop art bursts with life. From the delicate wings of a butterfly to the soft fur of a rabbit, each piece is a captivating study in texture and detail.
Ferris’ meticulous process begins with a deep dive into her chosen subject. For instance, to capture the ethereal beauty of a blue morpho butterfly, she meticulously gathers reference photos and videos. This immersive research allows Ferris to digitally paint a stunning rendition of the butterfly in Photoshop, translating its essence onto fabric. The final stage is where the magic truly unfolds – Ferris meticulously brings her creation to life, stitch by painstaking stitch, using a symphony of blue threads to recreate the butterfly’s mesmerizing wings.
Ferris’s work transcends mere embroidery; it’s an exquisite tapestry woven from patience, passion, and a deep appreciation for the natural world. Each piece is a testament to the transformative power of art, inviting viewers to lose themselves in the enchanting details and rediscover the wonder that surrounds us.
I love to try and emulate a sense of romanticism in my embroideries. I like to study numerous references of the object I want to embroider. For example, I must have saved hundreds of reference photos and watched many videos of the blue morpho butterfly, before digitally painting the butterfly in photoshop, then transferring the pattern to fabric and bringing the butterfly to life with so many shades of blue thread. I couldn’t count them.
