Judit Just Anteló has brought her vibrant artistry from the heart of Barcelona to the charming mountains of Asheville, North Carolina. Her rich cultural background and early immersion in textile arts, thanks to her mother, set the stage for her unique tapestry creations that are steeped in both tradition and innovation. With an educational foundation in fashion design, sculpture, and textile arts, Judit seamlessly weaves these elements together to produce tapestries that pulse with life and color. Her works are not meticulously planned masterpieces; instead, they are formed in the spur of the moment, an interpretation of her lived experiences and creative energy. The process is akin to a visual symphony where colors and textures come together, creating an engaging spectacle that captures the essence of her artistic journey.
Anteló’s tapestries reflect an ongoing metamorphosis, a beautiful cycle of creation and recreation. She crafts each piece with an improvisational spontaneity, letting creativity flow naturally. Once a piece takes its primordial form and earns her approval, she uses it as a cornerstone to build upon. By experimenting with color variations and embracing evolution, Judit ensures that each tapestry tells a story of transformation, echoing her own growth as an artist. Her approach highlights the dynamic interplay between stability and change, tradition and modernity, creating a rich tapestry of expressive depth that challenges the boundaries of conventional textile artistry.
Most of my tapestries are just an involuntary result of an improvisation, a dance with colors and materials. I like to let myself flow and see what it transforms into afterwards. Once I finish and approve one design, I keep the original in my studio to reproduce it in different color variations. Then I redo them and make them evolve and metamorphose into other creations.
