Emma Mattson is a Belair, Maryland-based artist who loves photography and embroidery. The latter, she uses as a kind of therapy, creating a series of sculptural hoop art that pays tribute to the beauty of moss. The vivid green color shades, the variety of textures, and the precision of the life-like shapes give a true delight for our eyes.
When making moss embroideries, it’s about creating and building up a scene from nothing or creating a mini landscape. Felt is layered together for three-dimensionality in round shapes and I go from there in a more abstract sense.
