Jen Duffin, the Montreal-based fiber artist known as Nova Mercury, weaves a world of fantasy through her vibrant textile creations. Her artistry is a celebration of color and texture, manifesting in intricate macramés, circular tapestries, and expansive wall hangings. Each piece is a testament to her whimsical vision and mastery over her medium, inviting viewers into a kaleidoscopic dreamscape where the mundane fades and wonder takes root.
Duffin’s work is not just visually arresting; it’s an immersive experience that transcends the traditional boundaries of textile art. Her use of bold, saturated hues and playful patterns challenges the viewer’s perception, blurring the lines between art and craft. The dynamic interplay of threads and colors in her pieces captures the essence of movement, making each artwork appear as if it’s alive with energy.
My foray into creating began with some simple macrame plant hangers for my home, but my love of all things fibre soon became a full-blown obsession. I began weaving on a frame loom shortly afterwards and the rest is history. Inspired by colour and whimsy, I create art that brings joy and vibrance to my clients’ decor. In addition to making original art, I love to encourage creativity by teaching weaving workshops and offering a selection of weaving tools and supplies. I aim to create beautiful, heirloom artworks and to inspire a love of creating in others. I believe in handmade, quality, and small business.
