Dreamscapes on canvas: the surreal figurative art of Minyoung Choi

South Korean-born, London-based artist Minyoung Choi isn’t interested in portraying the world as we see it. Instead, she invites us into a dreamscape where reality bends and figures transform. Choi’s specialty is surreal figurative painting, and her work is a captivating blend of the human form and fantastical elements.

Curious creatures peek from behind shoulders, bodies morph into landscapes, and everyday objects take on unexpected lives. Through her art, Choi creates a wonderland where the subconscious reigns and the boundaries between dream and reality blur. Each piece is an invitation to explore the depths of the imagination, where anything is possible and the only limit is the artist’s vision.

Through painting, I experience and enhance the surreal and magic of the world. A sense of wonder, playfulness, and contemplation permeates my works, embodying my awe for the mystery of nature and the instinctive bond between animals and humans.
