French illustrator Agathe Meunier captures the essence of France’s diverse landscapes through her distinctive artistic approach. Utilizing alcohol markers and risograph printing, she reimagines natural scenes with bold forms and unexpected colors, creating a harmonious blend of tranquility and vibrancy. Her compositions often feature vast outdoor settings, where the stillness of nature contrasts with energetic palettes and speckled textures, resulting in a unique aesthetic that feels both familiar and surreal.
Meunier’s inspiration stems from her deep connection with the outdoors. Her journey into landscape illustration began during a cycling trip with a friend who introduced her to sketching. This experience ignited her passion for capturing the beauty of various regions across France. Over the years, she has immersed herself in different environments, from working at a mountain refuge in Vanoise National Park in the Alps to residing by the sea in Brittany. Each location offers new perspectives and challenges, enriching her artistic practice.
In addition to her personal projects, Meunier co-founded Dynamo Studio with fellow artist Camille le Clainche. This microprinting company focuses on exhibitions, workshops, and small editions, often produced during residencies in various locales. One notable project, “Parcelles”, features small-format images inspired by 1950s souvenir photographs discovered at a flea market. Through such endeavors, Meunier continues to explore and document the rich tapestry of French landscapes, offering fresh perspectives through her innovative use of color and form.
